What I keep thinking…
What keeps me going…

What I keep thinking…

What keeps me going…

Renaissance (an original poem inspired by Langston Hughes’ “Harlem”)

A dream deferred

can’t be redeemed

Like a message in a bottle

thrown into sea

A dream deferred

was kept without a care

Like a dead leaf taken by the air

A dream deferred

does not exist

Like evaporated water that formed a mist

A dream deferred dies

for a delayed thought cannot live

It floats off into nowhere

and turns into nothingness

So once you start to dream

continue to aspire

Once you’ve sparked a flame

you must create a fire

Once a dream is dreamt

you must make it last

Don’t create a future

and turn it into your past

Hold on to your dream

for a dream deferred is only waste

A true dream that is molded and shaped

will create something beautiful, and will be all the more to appreciate

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Liquidity

leaveyouapen:

Between the soft ripples
and delicate folds of your

skin,

In the fluttering pulses
of your pores and
openings,

traversing through flesh
and feel is the liquidity

of my

soul reaching to
extinguish the thirst of
your spirit’s ache.
